Calivirgin Extra Virgin Olive Oil - calivirgin.com

Calivirgin Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Hello ....as I said last week you would find out this week what that sticker was on Giada's face and what COOC certified means.  As some of you know Mikes family and I have been working on an Olive Oil label for quite some time.  The olive trees have been growing for a couple years and in October we had our first harvest. I didn't know much about extra virgin olive oil at the time and have been amazed at what we have found out.  Obviously we think our oil is delicious but you'll have to judge for yourselves.

Here are a few things about extra virgin olive oil and Calivirgin that you may not know...

IS THE “EXTRA VIRGIN” OLIVE OIL YOU BUY REALLY EXTRA VIRGIN?

Many import oils as well as US and local brands label their oil as “Extra Virgin” grade, the highest grade of olive oil, but if chemically analyzed and screened for taste defects many oils often test out at a lower grade or are found to be blended with seed or vegetable oils due to the lack of US regulations.  Coldani Olive Ranch, LLC has just released Calivirgin Extra Virgin Olive Oil which has been certified by the California Olive Oil Council (COOC). A Seal-Certified olive oil offers the highest standard of quality to American consumers with positive taste elements and no taste defects, as determined during a sensory evaluation by a panel of experts as well as a chemical analysis. Any oil that does not bear the seal has no guarantee that it has been tested to meet any standards at all as there is currently no mandatory testing for quality or grade of olive oil sold in the United States.  Since there are virtually no standards for imported oil in the United States the COOC seal is your only assurance that the olive oil you are purchasing is 100% extra virgin and 100% olive oil.  It is a well known fact that extra virgin olive oil is healthy for you.  Are you missing out on the health benefits by buying low grade or blended oils?

Coldani Olive Ranch’s Calivirgin extra virgin olive oil is an unfiltered blend produced from Arbequina and Koroneiki olives and cold-pressed within hours of harvest creating a fresh, fruity flavor that is perfect for dipping but mild enough to use as a  trans fat-free culinary  staple in your kitchen. The modern planting and machine-harvesting techniques utilized at Coldani Olive Ranch allow harvest to occur at optimum fruit maturity for flavor and freshness. Mechanical harvesting allows the olives to be picked quickly, untouched by human hands and without contact with the soil or other contaminants.

The majority of our sales team at Coldani Olive Ranch are California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo graduates. The idea to farm olives derived from a Cal Poly senior project which originally started out as a vineyard design which quickly became olive groves after the discovery of how well they would grow in Lodi’s fertile soils which have produced world-class wines for decades. Coldani Olive Ranch utilizes oil derived exclusively from its own olive groves, one of the only producers in the Lodi region to do so. It is in this way that we are able to guarantee every bottle contains only the highest quality extra virgin olive oil available.  Coldani Olive Ranch adheres to the practices of sustainable agriculture. No pesticides are used in our olive groves.

To learn more or to purchase a bottle online visit www.calivirgin.com.  Currently our oil can be found locally in Lodi at Fiori’s Butcher Shoppe, DeGrande’s CafĂ© and Abundance Winery as well as being used in the kitchen of Sacramento’s Biba Restaurant.

Also at the Lodi Farmers Market on Thursdays, and The Little Italy Mercato Farmers Market in San Diego on Saturdays.
